Álvaro has joined the NK5 team in September 2020 as a Director and specialist within the firm in financial restructuring of companies, with a special focus from a legal perspective.

He has spent the last 9 years at DLA Piper, where he was Of Counsel in the Restructuring&Special Situations area, participating in acquisition, restructuring, refinancing and insolvency processes, both nationally and internationally. He has extensive experience advising international clients (e.g. Goldman Sachs, Apollo, KKR, King Street, Strategic Value Partners, Credit Suisse International or Deutsche Bank) in cross-border restructuring processes, both in solvency and insolvency situations, in different pre-insolvency mechanisms (refinancing agreements), purchase and sale of productive units, and liquidation of companies. It is also experienced in distressed asset and debt transactions (secondary market subject to LMA documentation).

Álvaro has been recognized by the legal ranking Best Lawyers in its list of Best Lawyers in Spain for the years 2016 to 2019 (Category Insolvency & Reorganization), and is a finalist in the Iberian Lawyer Forty under 40 2019 awards as best individual lawyer in Insolvency & Restructuring.

He has a degree in Law and Political Science from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a postgraduate degree in Business Law from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, and has taken several specialisation courses in restructuring, banking and financial law (candidate for CFA I).

He has acted as a speaker in various postgraduate programmes in different business schools, such as the IEB (Institute of Stock Market Studies), where he has participated in the Course on Refinancing and Restructuring, and at the University of Navarra, where he has participated in the Master’s Degree in Access to the Legal Profession. He has also been a regular contributor to the internal training programme of DLA Piper and NK5, and is a member of TMA (Turnaround Management Association) in Spain.
